Fleas & Ticks

Only use a good quality flea product
Fleas and ticks are the bane of any dog and cat owning household, particularly if you live and exercise your dogs in sheep or deer country.

Tests have shown that the vast majority of fleas found on dogs are in fact cat fleas, so if you do have cats too, even if they live separately from the dogs, you will need to ensure that they remain flea free too.

Flea treatments range from sprays, to collars, to powders and shampoos and from herbal to chemical, internal to external. It is also esential to treat living areas, vacuuming carpets regularly and washing bedding at the same time, otherwise, even though your pets are clear, they will immediately be reinfested. You should act quickly if you find evidence of fleas, or things can rapidly get worse.

Ticks are only a problem in certain areas but once again they should be dealt with speedily. Both fleas and ticks can be carriers of diseases which they can pass on to dogs. Some of these diseases can be fatal but there are vaccines available where there is a need to protect from particular illnesses.
