![]() Train your puppy from day one Take the new puppy outside every 15 minutes. Take him out the same door to the same spot in the garden. Select the spot you want him to use. When he has eliminated, praise him and return to the house. Do not give the puppy freedom of the house. Put the puppy on a collar and lead if you want to take him to other parts of the house. With the puppy on a lead, you have control and remain aware of where the puppy is and what he is doing. If you want the puppy with you while you watch television, put him on his lead. You can correct him quickly if he gets into something inappropriate. If you have him on a lead you can give it at tug and say no in a firm voice. When he leaves the item alone, praise him and pet him. This technique is known as Positive Reinforcement. The goal is to have a puppy who is toilet trained. Many people report that they have no accidents or just the one or two with their new Siberian. The breed as a whole is smart and wants to be clean in the house. As the puppy becomes more used to his new environment, he relaxes and does not need to go out to relieve himself so often. Put the puppy in his crate for a few minutes when you bring him in from outside. Just a few minutes in a crate will familiarize him to his new way of life. Do not let him scream and carry on in his crate. Insist that he be quiet and let him out when he is quiet, if only for a moment. This inside-outside routine with the few minutes in the crate throughout the day will be a major step in establishing the puppys daily routine and teaching him how to be clean in your home. |
